      Volleyball FAQ

      Volleyball is a team sport played between two teams of six players each, separated by a net. The objective is to ground the ball on the opponent’s court while preventing the opponent from doing the same.

      Each team has 6 players on court (plus substitutes). Players rotate positions each time they win back the serve.

      • Matches are best of 5 sets.
      • Each set is played to 25 points, but a team must win by 2 points.
      • The deciding 5th set is played to 15 points.
      • Every rally counts (rally scoring system).

      • Knee pads, shoes with grip
      • Standard indoor or outdoor court
      • Each team gets 3 touches to return the ball (not counting a block).
      • A player cannot hit the ball twice in a row.
      • The ball must cross over the net within bounds.
      • Players must rotate clockwise when winning the serve.
      • Setter – sets up attackers with accurate passes.
      • Outside hitter (spiker) – attacks from the left side.
      • Opposite hitter – attacks from the right side.
      • Middle blocker – defends and blocks in the center.

      Libero – defensive specialist who cannot attack or serve (wears a different jersey).
